5 Signs Your Website Isn’t Ready for AI-Powered Search

Trulove Webworks guide on AI search readiness signs

Search has changed fast this year. AI Overviews — the AI-generated summaries now sitting above traditional Google results — reach over 2.5 billion people a month, according to Dataconomy, and Search Engine Land reports that zero-click searches (where someone gets their answer without clicking any website at all) are now as high as 68% of all searches.

That’s a lot of moments where a business either gets mentioned in that summary — or quietly gets left out of the conversation entirely.

The tricky part is that most business owners have no easy way to know which one is happening to them. So here’s where to start looking.

Your Traffic Looks Flat, Even Though Your Rankings Look Fine

If you check your rankings and everything still looks decent, but your actual visits keep slipping, that gap is worth investigating. It can mean people are getting their answer from an AI Overview before they ever reach your site — even while you’re still ranking well the old-fashioned way.

A mismatch between rankings and traffic is one sign. How your content is written is another.

Your Content Answers “What We Do,” Not “What People Are Asking”

AI Overviews are built to answer questions directly: “how much does it cost,” “how long does it take,” “is it worth it,” “who’s the best one near me.” If your website talks mostly about your services in general terms rather than answering the specific questions your customers are typing into Google, there’s less for the AI to pull from and cite.

There’s also a more direct way to check, if you haven’t already.

You’ve Never Checked Search Console’s New AI Report

Google recently rolled out a dedicated report inside Search Console that shows how often your pages appear specifically within AI Overviews and AI Mode. If you haven’t looked at it yet — or didn’t know it existed — there’s a good chance you also don’t know where you currently stand.

Beyond what Google can see about you directly, there’s also what it can verify about you elsewhere.

Your Business Information Isn’t Consistent Across the Web

AI systems lean heavily on trust signals: does your business name, address, phone number, and description match across your website, Google Business Profile, and other listings? Inconsistencies (even small ones, like an old address on one directory) can make it harder for AI to confidently include you in an answer.

And finally, even accurate information can get missed if it’s buried.

Your Site Structure Makes It Hard to Find a Direct Answer

If someone (or an AI) has to dig through several pages to find your pricing, service area, or a clear answer to a common question, that’s a structural issue. Clear headings, direct answers near the top of a page, and well-organized content all make it easier for AI Overviews to pull accurate information from your site.

If Any of These Sound Familiar

None of this means something is broken beyond repair — it usually just means nobody has looked at your site through this particular lens yet, because until recently, there wasn’t a great way to. Now there is.

We put together a closer look at this in Is Your Website Even Visible in Google’s AI Overviews? Here’s How to Find Out, covering what to check, what tends to make the biggest difference, and how we help businesses find out exactly where they stand instead of guessing.
