How to Get Your Business Found in AI Search: It Starts With Your Website Content

If you read our last post about the new report showing most businesses don’t show up in AI answers, you might be sitting with a very reasonable question: Okay, so what do I actually do about it?

Maybe you’ve heard terms like “AI optimization” or “GEO” thrown around and assumed it’s one more technical project you’ll need to hire someone for. Maybe you just don’t have time to figure out one more thing.

Here’s something that might help you breathe a little easier. Getting found in AI isn’t about tricks or secret code. It mostly comes down to something you already understand better than anyone: explaining clearly what your business does, who you help, and why people can trust you.

In other words, it comes down to your website content.

Why Does Your Website Content Matter So Much to AI?

Think about how you’d recommend a business to a friend. You’d only mention someone you know something about. You’d know what they do, roughly where they are, and whether other people have had a good experience with them.

AI tools work in a surprisingly similar way. They can only recommend businesses they understand, and a big part of how they understand you is by reading what’s on your website.

That’s not just a hunch. When Yext looked at millions of AI answers, they found that 86% of the sources AI cited were things a business already controls, like its website and listings. Business websites alone made up 44% of those citations, more than any other source.

Even Google keeps it simple. In its guidance for site owners, Google says there are no special tricks needed to show up in its AI results. The advice is to focus on “helpful, reliable, people-first content.”

So if your website is thin, vague, or hasn’t been touched in years, AI doesn’t have much to work with. But if it clearly explains what you do, it becomes the best advocate your business has, even when you’re not in the room.

Which Pages Does Your Website Actually Need?

A lot of local business websites we see have a homepage, a short “Services” page that lists everything in one paragraph, and a contact form. That might be enough to look legitimate, but it doesn’t give AI (or your customers) much to go on.

Yext’s research found that AI tools tend to cite the page that best matches what someone is asking. So if someone asks for “a pool company in Magnolia that does repairs,” the business with a clear page about pool repairs, that mentions Magnolia, has a real advantage.

Here are the pages we recommend for most local businesses:

  • A page for each main service. Instead of one page that lists ten services, give each important service its own page. Explain what it is, who it’s for, what to expect, and what makes you good at it.
  • Pages or sections for the areas you serve. If you work in Conroe, Montgomery, Magnolia, and The Woodlands, say so clearly. AI can’t guess your service area if your website doesn’t mention it.
  • A real About page. Share your story, how long you’ve been in business, your team, and what you care about. This is where both people and AI get a sense of whether you’re trustworthy.
  • A helpful FAQ page. Answer the questions you hear on the phone every week: pricing ranges, timelines, what’s included, whether you offer financing or emergency service.
  • A reviews or testimonials page. Showing what real customers say reinforces the reputation AI is already looking for elsewhere.
  • An easy-to-find contact page. Your name, address, phone number, and hours should be clear and match what’s on your Google Business Profile.

Think of each page as an answer to a question a customer might ask. The more of those questions your website answers well, the more chances you have to be the business AI recommends.

What Makes Website Content “Good” for AI?

The good news is that content that works well for AI is the same content that works well for people. You don’t need to write for robots. You just need to write clearly.

Here’s what that looks like in practice:

  • Be specific. “We offer quality service” doesn’t tell anyone much. “We repair and resurface residential pools across Montgomery County, usually within one to two weeks” tells people (and AI) exactly what you do.
  • Use the words your customers use. If your customers say “AC repair,” don’t only call it “HVAC system maintenance.” Write the way people actually talk and search.
  • Answer questions directly. When someone asks, “How much does it cost?” give a real answer, even if it’s a range. Clear answers are exactly what AI tools look for to share.
  • Share what makes you different. Your experience, your process, your guarantees, the neighborhoods you know well. These details help AI understand why you’re a good fit for a particular person.
  • Keep it current. Outdated hours, old services, or a staff member who left three years ago all make a business look less reliable.

If reading that list makes you think, “I know all this about my business, I just don’t have time to write it,” you’re not alone. That’s the most common thing we hear. You’re the expert on your business. Turning that expertise into clear, helpful website content is a different skill, and it takes time most business owners just don’t have.

Does Blogging Still Help?

It does, and AI is one more reason why.

Your main website pages cover the basics: what you do and where you do it. A blog lets you go further by answering the more specific questions customers ask before they’re ready to call. Things like “How often should I service my AC in Texas?” or “What should I ask before hiring a contractor?”

Every helpful post adds another answer AI can find and connect back to your business. Over time, it shows that you actually know your stuff. You don’t need to post every day. A steady rhythm of useful, well-written posts goes a lot further than a burst of rushed ones.

How Can We Help You Get Found?

This is exactly where our Stress-Free Website Process comes in. It was built for busy business owners who know their business inside and out, but don’t have the time (or the desire) to become website experts.

Here’s how we take this off your plate:

  • We plan the right pages with you. Together we figure out which services, service areas, and questions your website needs to cover, so nothing important gets left out.
  • We write the content for you. You share what you know in a relaxed conversation, and we turn it into clear, helpful copy that sounds like you. No blank pages, no writing homework.
  • We build it to grow. Your site is set up as the foundation for everything else, including ongoing blog posts if you want help keeping fresh content coming.

You don’t have to figure out AI search on your own. You just need a website that tells your story clearly, and that’s what we do best.

If you’re wondering whether your current website is giving AI enough to work with, we’d love to take a look. Book a free discovery call and we’ll help you see what’s working, what’s missing, and where to start.
